The lawmaker representing Ibadan North East/South East federal Constituency of Oyo State, Rep. Abass Adigun Agboworin, on Wednesday, led an awareness walk in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

The event, which drew a large number of participants, aimed to educate and sensitize youths and women demographic on the dangers of drug abuse.

The lawmaker, who is also the Chairman of House Committee on Narcotic Drugs, has been at the forefront of the campaign against drug abuse in the country.

While speaking to journalists during the exercise, he bemoaned the menace, urging youths to say no to drugs but instead focus on building a brighter future for themselves.

He equally tasked the government at all levels to practically rise up against the scourge of drug abuse which, according to him, is “destroying the lives of our young people on a daily basis.”

“The future of our nation is at stake. This is what government at all levels must fight against because this menace is killing our people It is killing our youths and I am pained.

“I implore you all to join me in this fight against drug abuse because things can go worse if strong step is not taken by the government.

“That is why the government also needs to fund the NDLEA adequately so that the agency can increase its capacity and fight the menace as fast as possible,” Agboworin stated.

He also urged the government to provide employments for the teeming youths so as not to be lured into drug abuse as a result of joblessness and redundancy.

The awareness walk, which saw participants carrying placards with different inscriptions speaking to drugs abuse, started from the Cocoa House, Dugbe, Ibadan, ended at Mokola Roundabout.
