The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade yesterday, June 25, 2024 commenced a comprehensive inspection of primary health care centers within the jurisdiction.
This move aims to assess the current state of these centers, identify their challenges, and develop strategies for improving health care delivery to the residents of Ibadan North, especially in light of the recent cholera outbreak.
Hon. Olufade’s first stop was Idi Ogungun Primary Health Care Centre, Agodi, Ibadan.
During his visit, he interacted with the officers in charge, including the health officer, Mrs. Akinbowale, who highlighted several issues.
She pointed out the lack of adequate space for the counseling unit, consultation unit, and pharmacy unit, as well as a shortage of staff and the need for a night guard to secure the center.
Hon. Olufade reassured her that the ongoing construction of a nearby police station would enhance security.
Additionally, he promised that the council would provide an extra night security guard.
The chairman then proceeded to inspect Oke Apon/Yemetu Primary Health Care Center, where the primary concern was a low turnout of patients and insufficient staff. At the third center, Oke Are Primary Health Care in Aare Latosa, the issues included a staff shortage, lack of space for a laboratory and pharmacy, and the need for repairs to their solar freezer.
The final center visited on the first day was Ajose Primary Health Care, Agala Nalende in Ward 2. Here, the major challenges were insecurity, staff shortages, low patient turnout, and the need for a solar freezer to store vaccines.
Hon. Olufade, after observing and listening to the challenges faced by these centers, assured the staff that the council would address most of the issues to ensure effective healthcare delivery to the residents of Ibadan North Local Government.
“Health is wealth,” he emphasized, noting that the primary health care center inspections would continue.
Accompanying the chairman on this inspection tour were Mrs Olatunbosun Aderoju Oluremi, Director of Health in Ibadan North Local Government; Mr Oladejo Lateef, director of works, Ibadan North Local Government, Mrs Funke Foluso lala, head of information unit, ibadan north local government, Ayo Elemo, Personal Assistant to the Chairman; Aderibigbe Yisahu Ajibola, Head of Media Unit to the Chairman; and Ayodamope Afolabi, a member of the media team.
