In a bid to enhance the agricultural sector and ensure food security in Oyo State, His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde has recently taken proactive steps by suspending revenue collection on food items within the state. Governor Makinde has announced plans to relocate such revenue collection to food items crossing the borders of Oyo State. These measures have significant implications for the state’s economy, agricultural sector, and overall development.

The decision to suspend revenue collection on food items within the state is a commendable move aimed at promoting food security. By removing taxes and levies on agricultural produce within the state, Governor Makinde is encouraging local farmers to increase production and contribute to meeting the food needs of the state’s population. This step will not only make food more affordable for the residents but also create an enabling environment for farmers to thrive.

Relocating revenue collection to food items crossing the borders of Oyo State is a strategic step that will stimulate the growth of the agricultural sector. By focusing on revenue generation from food items entering the state, Governor Makinde is incentivizing agricultural trade and encouraging farmers to explore markets beyond state borders. This move will not only increase the income of farmers but also promote inter-state trade and economic integration.

The suspension of revenue collection on food items within the state sends a positive signal to potential investors in the agricultural sector. By creating a business-friendly environment, Governor Makinde is attracting investment in agricultural production, processing, and distribution. This will lead to job creation, increased revenue generation, and overall economic growth in Oyo State.

Relocating revenue collection to food items crossing the borders of Oyo State will help in curbing smuggling and illicit trade. By strengthening border controls and implementing efficient revenue collection mechanisms, the state government can regulate the inflow of food items and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards. This proactive step will protect local farmers from unfair competition and promote local agricultural production.
