The Deputy Governor of Oyo state, Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal has commiserated with the Imam in council of Ibadanland and the entire Muslim Ummah of Oyo State on the demise of the Grand Mufti (Alfa Agba) of Ibadanland, Alhaji Abdul Fatai Alaga.

Through a delegation led by Commissioner for Special Duties Alhaja Fauzat Sanni, the Deputy Governor expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased on Wednesday, describing Alaga’s death as shocking.

The delegation also included Special Assistant to Oyo Deputy Governor on Administration Kunle Sanni and SA on Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Abdul-Rasheed Abdul-Azeez, who paid the Chief Imam of Ibadanland a condolence visit at his house in OJa’ Oba, Ibadan.

According to the delegation: “The death of the renowned cleric was no doubt a great shock, we are however comforted by the fact that he contributed immensely to the growth of Islam not only in Ibadanland but throughout Yorubaland.

“Your Eminence, we cannot lose the sight of the contribution similarly made by the forebears of the late Grand Mufti towards the propagation of Islam which was indeed the legacy inherited and built upon by late Alhaji Abdul Fatai Alaga.

“It is our firm belief that the Almighty Allah will repose the soul of our dear Grand Mufti as attested to by the Holy Quran in Chapter 3 verse 170 “They are delighted in what God has granted them of His favour, and they rejoice in good news of those after them who have not yet joined them, that no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grief”.

“While His Excellency prays for the immediate family of the grand mufti, the entire Muslim Ummah of Ibadanland in particular and Oyo State in general, the fortitude to bear the loss, kindly accept His Excellency’s condolences.”
