There is something remarkable about a person who refuses to give up simply because the journey is difficult. Oluchi Joy is one of such individuals. She is a lady comrade with a strong determination to push forward whenever she receives the right encouragement and support. Sometimes, all she needs to hear is: “Oluchi, you can do it!”

Over time, I have watched Oluchi Joy grow in her commitment to comradeship, leadership and the responsibilities that come with belonging to a movement. Her recent political and leadership journey reflects a growing understanding of the sacrifices, discipline and resilience required to pursue responsibilities at the national level.

In many ways, she has demonstrated a level of commitment that reminds me of the leadership antecedents of Comrade Festus Oyewumi, the immediate past President of the Senate of NAPS, and Comrade Jimoh Ibrahim, the current NAPS President. These are comrades whose experiences and leadership journeys provide valuable lessons in dedication, perseverance and organisational commitment.

Oluchi has also demonstrated that leadership is not determined by gender but by courage, capacity, sacrifice and the willingness to take responsibility. Her decision to pursue a national office without a conventional financial sponsor was not an ordinary undertaking. Anyone familiar with student politics understands the enormous financial and logistical demands involved.
From transportation, fuelling and vehicle maintenance to accommodation, feeding, consultations, mobilisation and other operational expenses, the financial implications can run into millions of naira.

The cost of fuelling and maintaining buses for movements alone can exceed ₦1 million, depending on the journey and operational demands.
Yet, through determination and personal sacrifices, Oluchi Joy remained part of the struggle. Her journey has not been without challenges, but she has continued to demonstrate that commitment is not merely expressed through words; it is proven through actions.

There are moments when she wants to retreat or become discouraged, but sometimes all it takes is a sincere conversation and a reminder of the bigger picture. Whenever I tell her, “Oluchi, stop that. You can do this,” she quickly regains that courageous spirit. That is part of the journey of leadership: encouragement, correction, discipline and the willingness to keep moving.
I must also recognise Comrade Oyebamiji Sodiq, who played an important role as the pilot of that journey. His efforts and contributions deserve appreciation. The realities of political participation are sometimes demanding, and one thing we must all understand is that there is no meaningful political journey without organisation, resources, patience and sacrifice.
With all sincerity, I give credit to my team. Comrade Festus Oyewumi, Comrade Jimoh Ibrahim, Comrade Oyebamiji Sodiq, Comrade Oluchi Joy, Comrade Teniola Adegbite and everyone who has continued to believe in my judgment, leadership and decisions whenever duty calls.
I do not take your confidence for granted. I appreciate every sacrifice, every contribution, every difficult moment and every expression of loyalty to the collective vision.
We may not have gotten everything right yet, but I strongly believe that we are learning, building and making progress. With time, consistency and the right decisions, we will get many things right.
CONGRATULATIONS, COMRADE OLUCHI JOY!
