Political leaders and stakeholders from across Oyo Federal Constituency gathered on Sunday as the Campaign Council for Hon. Barr. Temilolu Nurudeen Ashamu (Seun TNA) was formally inaugurated ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The inauguration, held at Methodist Primary School, Apaara, Oyo, marked a significant step in the organisation of Ashamu’s campaign for the Oyo Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Ashamu, alongside the Party State Secretary, Hon. Yemi Oyelami, formally inaugurated the council and charged its members to reconcile differences, work across political divides and build a broad-based campaign focused on the people of Oyo Federal Constituency.

The event brought together party leaders, political stakeholders and supporters from across the constituency, with speakers repeatedly emphasising unity, reconciliation and collective responsibility as the campaign moves into its next phase.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Akin Alawode, G.L.O. to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, expressed appreciation to His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde and Distinguished Senator Monsurat Sunmonu for their continued leadership and support. He described Ashamu as a patriot with a deep commitment to Oyo and noted that his years of public service had equipped him with valuable experience and capacity for the task ahead.

Former Member of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, also pledged his full support for Ashamu’s candidacy and called on party members to remain united and committed to the success of APM candidates in the forthcoming elections.

The call for unity was echoed by Hon. Jelili Alala, who urged the campaign council to engage any member who may still harbour grievances within the political family, while Hon. Atilola Sakiru, representing Rt. Hon. Maroof Olawale Atilola, appealed for reconciliation and urged party faithful to put aside differences in the collective interest of the campaign.

In another intervention, Alhaja Sikirat Adeleke of Atiba Local Government called for greater inclusion of women in leadership and urged Ashamu to ensure that women continue to play a prominent role in his political journey and, if elected, in his representation of the constituency.

Distinguished Senator Monsurat Sunmonu also formally presented Ashamu to political leaders from across the constituency, with Alhaji Olatunji Quadri, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, Alhaja Sikirat Adeleke, Alhaji Isiaka Adebayo, Alhaji Bashir Adeyanju, Leader R.A. Atanda and Alhaji Ismahila Yusuff, among others, receiving him and expressing their support for his candidacy.

Senator Sunmonu also expressed appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde, party leaders and members, as well as those who supported her during her recent recovery from a minor accident. As an expression of gratitude to God, she donated ₦2 million to the four Local Governments that make up Oyo Federal Constituency.

Addressing the gathering, Ashamu expressed appreciation to His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, political leaders, stakeholders, party members and supporters for their continued support and confidence in him.

He explained that the composition of the campaign council reflects the breadth of the political coalition supporting his candidacy, with members drawn from different political backgrounds and selected following consultations with leaders across the constituency.

Ashamu called on members of the council to put aside differences and work together towards the success of the campaign, stressing that unity and collective action would be critical in the months ahead.

He assured the gathering that he would remain committed to the people of Oyo Federal Constituency and would work to justify the confidence reposed in him.

The inauguration also received tangible support from stakeholders. Hon. Sunday Akindele Ojo, APM Chairmanship Candidate in Afijio Local Government, contributed ₦1 million towards the campaign, while Hon. Olusola Peter Oluokun donated a campaign vehicle, which was formally handed over to the Director-General of the Campaign Council. Hon. Nureni Adesola Alade, Vice Chairman of Oyo West Local Government, also pledged a bus to support mobilisation activities.

The over 100-member Campaign Council brings together political leaders, grassroots organisers and representatives from across the four Local Government Areas and 40 wards of Oyo Federal Constituency.

The Campaign Council is led by Hon. Sakiru Ojo as Director-General, alongside Hon. Aremu Adelani, Hon. Amusat Soliu, Alh. Adedeji Jelili (Alala) and Hon. Wahab Ajjibade who will serve as Co-Directors-General for Afijio, Oyo East, Oyo West and Atiba respectively. Hon. Okunlawon Femi will serve as Secretary to the Council.

The Council also includes directors and members responsible for Finance, Logistics, Security, Protocol and Entertainment, Rural Development, Political Affairs, Media, Mobilisation, Youth, Women as well as an Elders Advisory Committee.

The inauguration formally sets in motion a constituency-wide campaign structure and signals a new phase of organisation, reconciliation and grassroots mobilisation for Ashamu’s candidacy.

With the council now inaugurated, Ashamu charged members to take the campaign’s message of unity, purposeful representation and people-centred development across the 40 wards of Oyo Federal Constituency as the campaign enters its next phase.
