The Association of Local Government Chairmen in Oyo State has congratulated Governor Seyi Makinde on the emergence of Engr. Muftau Open Salawu as the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for the 2027 governorship election in the state.

The association described Salawu’s emergence as a significant development in the state’s political landscape and commended the leadership of the party for what it termed a strategic decision aimed at promoting competence, inclusiveness, and grassroots development.

In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Association, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, and the Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, the council chairmen also congratulated the APM governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, and his running mate, Engr. Muftau Open Salawu, on the successful formation of their ticket ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election.

The association noted that the selection of Salawu as deputy governorship candidate reflects confidence in his experience, leadership qualities, and understanding of grassroots governance.

According to the statement, the emergence of the Adekanmbi-Salawu ticket demonstrates the party’s commitment to presenting capable individuals who can contribute meaningfully to the continued development of Oyo State.

The chairmen expressed optimism that the partnership between Adekanmbi and Salawu would enrich political discourse and strengthen democratic participation in the state.

They further described the ticket as one built on competence, vision, and a commitment to public service.

“The unveiling of Engr. Muftau Open Salawu as deputy governorship candidate is a strategic and commendable decision that reflects the commitment of the party leadership to competence, inclusiveness, and grassroots development,” the statement read.

The association added that both Adekanmbi and Salawu possess the experience and leadership capacity required to contribute to the growth and advancement of Oyo State.

“The combination of Bimbo Adekanmbi and Engr. Muftau Open Salawu represents experience, vision, and a shared commitment to the progress of Oyo State and the welfare of its people.

“We congratulate both leaders on the successful formation of their ticket and wish them success as they continue consultations and engagements ahead of the 2027 governorship election,” the statement added.

The local government chairmen also reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives that promote good governance, grassroots development, and sustainable growth across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State.

They urged political stakeholders to continue to prioritise unity, peaceful engagement, and issue-based politics as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general elections in the state.
