Barr. Seun Temilolu Nurudeen Ashamu (TNA), Omo Oloore, became a Commissioner at the remarkably young age of 31 in 2019, entrusted with leading the newly created Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources , the first of its kind in Oyo State. His appointment was a test of capacity, vision and competence, and he rose to the occasion.

If we acknowledge Governor Seyi Makinde’s achievements during Omituntun 1.0, then Ashamu’s contribution, particularly in the energy sector, cannot be overlooked. He was involved in the Light Up Oyo project and several interventions that brought practical benefits to communities and public institutions.

His record goes beyond Energy. He later served as Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources and Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, demonstrating versatility, competence and a strong understanding of governance. His tenure also featured solar interventions in 21 Primary Health Centres across Oyo State, including Oyo East, Oyo West, Afijio and Atiba. At Kolobo PHC in Oyo West, the intervention provides power for essential medical equipment, including vaccine refrigerators and ultrasound machines, while lighting up delivery rooms. This is what purposeful public service should look like identifying problems, providing solutions and leaving lasting impact.

It is only fair to acknowledge that the incumbent has facilitated projects and interventions in Oyo Federal Constituency. However, representation should go beyond project facilitation to include effective advocacy, stakeholder engagement, youth and women empowerment, job opportunities, education, healthcare and human capital development. This is where TNA offers a compelling alternative. He is not coming to learn governance; he has already been tested, having managed different ministries and contributed to policy formulation and implementation. At under 40, he combines the energy of a new generation with years of executive experience and a clear desire to build a lasting legacy.

Ultimately, the 2027 election should be about the future of Oyo Federal Constituency. We can acknowledge what has been achieved while still demanding more. TNA represents the opportunity to combine youth, experience, brilliance, fresh ideas and purposeful representation. He understands governance from practical experience and is ready to take that experience to the Federal House to advocate for the people and connect Oyo to greater opportunities. Oyo Federal Constituency deserves capacity. It deserves fresh energy. It deserves representation that understands that public office is an opportunity to serve and leave a legacy. A Reps under 40 with this level of experience? I can’t wait.
