The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Oyo Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election, Hon. Afolabi Idris Olanrewaju, popularly known as Aloma, has paid glowing tribute to the late Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu, describing him as a political icon whose legacy continues to shape the fortunes of the PDP and grassroots politics in Oyo State.
Aloma made the remarks during activities marking the 18th anniversary of the passing of the late political titan, widely revered as the “Strongman of Ibadan Politics.”
According to him, despite the passage of nearly two decades since Adedibu’s demise, his contributions to democratic governance, political mentorship, and grassroots mobilization remain evident within the PDP and the broader political landscape of Oyo State.
He noted that the late Adedibu’s commitment to the welfare of the common people, his unwavering dedication to party unity, and his ability to nurture political talents have continued to serve as a guiding light for emerging leaders across the state.
“Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu was a unique political leader whose influence transcended partisan interests. His leadership style, commitment to the people, and passion for grassroots development remain worthy of emulation. Eighteen years after his departure, his legacy is still alive and continues to inspire many of us in public service and politics,” Aloma said.
The PDP chieftain further used the occasion to reaffirm his confidence in the leadership of former Deputy Governor of Oyo State and PDP elder statesman, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi, describing him as a committed party leader with the capacity to sustain the ideals of unity, inclusiveness, and progress within the party.
Aloma commended Gbolarumi for his steadfastness, loyalty to the PDP, and consistent efforts toward strengthening the party’s structure across Oyo State.
He urged party members to remain united and committed to the principles championed by the late Adedibu, stressing that collective dedication and effective leadership would further enhance the PDP’s prospects ahead of future elections.
The 18th memorial event attracted party leaders, stakeholders, loyalists, and admirers of the late Adedibu, who gathered to celebrate his enduring contributions to politics and democratic development in Oyo State and beyond.
