The Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, on Tuesday formally swore in Mrs. Komolafe Iyabo as Special Assistant in the council.

The swearing ceremony held on Wednesday April 29 at the council secretariat, Idi-Ayunre, Ibadan.

Mrs. Iyabo’s appointment comes following the exit of the former appointee, Alhaja Toyin Adepate, who recently defected from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The swearing-in ceremony had in attendance, key stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oluyole, including the immediate past PDP Chairman in the local government, Alhaji Adegbola Mukaila; the current PDP Chairman, Alhaji Nasiru Hamzat; PDP Vice Chairman, Alhaji Wasiu Arewa; the PDP Woman Leader in Oluyole, Mrs. Olanike Adekunle; as well as women leaders from all 10 wards, supervisory councillors, special assistants, and other party faithful.

Speaking shortly after administering the oath of office, Olatunji described the appointment as a strategic decision aimed at strengthening grassroots engagement and consolidating the party’s structure within the local government.

He expressed confidence in the capacity and loyalty of the new appointee, noting that her track record as PDP Woman Leader in Ward 7 made her a fitting choice for the role.

“Today’s appointment is not just about filling a vacancy; it is about reinforcing our commitment to inclusive governance and rewarding dedication to party ideals.

“Mrs. Komolafe Iyabo has demonstrated consistency, loyalty, and strong leadership at the ward level. We are confident that she will bring these qualities to bear in supporting the administration to deliver on its mandate,” Olatunji said.

The council boss also urged the new Special Assistant to see her appointment as a call to greater service, emphasizing the need for diligence, humility, and commitment to the people.

In her acceptance remarks, Mrs. Iyabo expressed gratitude to the chairman and the PDP leadership in Oluyole for the opportunity to serve, pledging to justify the confidence reposed in her.

“I am deeply honoured by this appointment and grateful to the chairman and our great party for finding me worthy,” she said.

“I assure you all that I will not take this responsibility lightly. I will work tirelessly to support the administration and ensure that the voices of our people, especially women at the grassroots, are effectively represented.”

Party leaders present at the event commended the chairman for what they described as a well-deserved merit based appointment, urging the new appointee to build on her existing relationship with party members and contribute meaningfully to governance at the local level.
