Is Senator Sarafadeen Alli Turning Oyo South Into a Non-Performing District? Constituents Raise Questions

A growing question among residents of Oyo South Senatorial District is whether the representation of Senator Sarafadeen Alli has left the district underperforming on key development indices.

The concern, now circulating across the nine local government areas of the district, centers on perceived gaps in what his predecessor was able to do while in office. Some constituents argue that Oyo South has not witnessed the level of federal presence and constituency projects expected from a senatorial seat, and they are asking the Senator to respond with verifiable records of his interventions since assuming office in 2023.

Those raising the question point to “non-performing” tag. They are demanding a breakdown of motions sponsored, bills initiated, and projects attracted to Ibadan South West, Ibadan North West, Ibadan South East, Ibadan North East, Ido, Ibarapa East, Ibarapa Central, and Ibarapa North LGAs.

Political observers note that the “performing” or “non-performing” label often emerges mid-tenure when constituents begin to measure campaign promises against visible results. They add that the absence of a centralized, regularly updated scorecard from lawmakers frequently fuels perception gaps between elected officials and the grassroots.

Many observers say Senator Alli’s record of work does not match the performance of some federal representatives who have attracted more visible projects to their constituencies within the same period. The comparison has become a talking point across Oyo South, where constituents are reviewing campaign promises against deliverables since the 10th National Assembly was inaugurated.

Residents in Ibarapa zone particularly claim that, aside from a few solar lamps distributed to select communities, the Senator’s impact remains limited when placed beside interventions by some ward councillors. They cite grading of access roads, borehole repairs, and youth empowerment schemes executed at the ward level as examples of projects with direct community touch, arguing that a senatorial office should command greater federal presence.

Efforts to obtain a formal response from Senator Sarafadeen Alli’s office on the specific allegation of turning Oyo South into a non-performing district were ongoing at press time.

The debate underscores a broader demand for accountability and feedback across Oyo State, where constituents are increasingly using civic platforms to evaluate representation beyond party lines.
