Food Security: FG Set To Flag-off Dry Season Farming To Combat Inflation

The Federal Government of Nigeria, as part of measures to address the food shortage in the country, is set to flag off the 2023/2024 dry season farming on Saturday, November 26, 2023.

According to the release made available to Heritage Echo News, the federal ministry of agriculture aimed to combat food inflation as a direct measure to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of emergency on food Security earlier this year.

Equally, the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari will lead several other dignitaries to Hadejia, Jigawa State, where the official ceremony will take place.

Several agricultural inputs such as seedlings, herbicides, fertilizers, and pesticides will be delivered to farmers at the occasion noting that the federal government is subsidizing the agricultural inputs by 50%.

The dry season farming is also expected to take in all 36 States of the federation and the federal capital territory, Abuja.

Also, the targeted crops are; wheat (imported seed from Mexico), rice, maize, sorghum, cassava, and soybeans.

The honorable minister for agriculture Senator Abubakar Kyari described the dry season farming flag-off as a milestone in realizing the renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s legacy.

He reaffirmed that the availability of agricultural inputs and machinery will enhance the cultivation of about one hundred and twenty thousand hectares in different parts of the country i.e. 36 States of the federation.
