An Oyo State Magistrate Court sitting in the Orile-Igbon Magisterial District, Ogbomoso, has ordered the remand of fifteen individuals in connection with the violent attack on Aagba village in Surulere Local Government Area.

The suspects are to be held at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Abolongo, Oyo, pending further investigations.

The Oyo State Police Public Public Relation Officer (PPRO) CSP OSIFESO Adewale, disclosed this in a statement made available to westernmirror.com.ng on Sunday, April 20.

The attack, which occurred on March 5, 2025, left the Aagba community devastated. Armed assailants, reportedly from neighboring areas, stormed the village, setting nine houses ablaze and forcing residents to flee.

According to the Police, a septuagenarian was brutally assaulted during the rampage and later died due to his injuries.

Following the incident, Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Adenola, visited the scene on April 6 and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Subsequent investigations however, led to the arrest of the fifteen suspects, who were apprehended from various locations, including a forest area near Ejigbo, where several had gone into hiding.

The accused, whose ages range from 19 to 60, face multiple charges including criminal conspiracy, arson, armed robbery, and murder.

The suspects include: Olayiwola Adisa (50), Shittu Waliu (45), Ibrahim Shareef (27), Shittu Ibrahim (45), Gabriel Aderinto, Oyetunde Kazeem (45), Bakare Sikiru (40), Babatunde Raimi (19), Adewuyi Emmanuel (21), Aderemi Kunle (19), Salawudeen Ismail (33), Jimoh Damilare (20), Oyebamiji Tunji (35), Ayankolade Femi (28), and Ogunleye Taiwo (60).

Police has also assured that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects who are still at large.

The Oyo State Police Command urged citizens to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activity in their local communities and areas.

“The Command will not hesitate to apply the full weight of the law to anyone who engages in acts of violence or brigandage,” the statement warned.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining peace across the state, and called on communities to work with law enforcement agencies to prevent similar incidents in the future.
