The leadership of the Coalition of Yoruba Youth Movement (COYYM) expresses deep concern over reported incidents involving GUO Motors and the alleged reckless driving of some of its drivers on Nigerian highways.

The loss of young lives in road crashes is a painful tragedy that demands urgent attention, accountability, and decisive action from all relevant authorities.

We are particularly disturbed by reports of fatal road accidents involving young Nigerians. Every life lost on our highways represents a family devastated, a future cut short, and a community left to bear the consequences of preventable tragedy. Human life must never be treated as expendable, and no transport company should be allowed to operate without being held to the highest standards of road safety.

OUR DEMANDS

The Coalition of Yoruba Youth Movement calls on GUO Transport management to take immediate and transparent steps to address concerns about the conduct of its drivers and the safety of its operations.

We hereby demand the following:

  1. A Transparent Investigation: The relevant authorities must conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into reported fatal accidents involving GUO Motors, including the circumstances surrounding the reported deaths of five young people in Epe, where applicable.
  2. Accountability and Justice for Victims: GUO Transport must cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies and other relevant authorities. Where negligence or misconduct is established, appropriate legal and administrative action must follow. Victims and their families deserve justice, compassion, and lawful remedies.
  3. Comprehensive Driver Safety Assessment: The company should review its driver recruitment, licensing, training, supervision, working conditions, and compliance with road safety regulations. Drivers who fail to meet established safety standards must not be permitted to endanger passengers and other road users.
  4. Stronger Regulatory Enforcement: We call on the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other relevant transport regulatory authorities to investigate credible complaints, conduct necessary safety inspections, and enforce applicable traffic and transport regulations without fear or favour.
  5. Public Safety Assurance: GUO Transport management should publicly communicate the measures it is taking to prevent avoidable accidents, improve driver accountability, and protect passengers and other road users.

A CALL TO NIGERIAN STUDENTS AND YOUTH

We call on Nigerian students, youth organizations, civil society groups, and concerned citizens to unite in demanding safer roads and accountability from transport operators.

COYYM encourages members of the public to make informed transport choices and to consider alternative operators where credible safety concerns remain unresolved. We also urge the public to report dangerous driving through appropriate official channels.

Our position is clear: no commercial interest should be placed above the sanctity of human life.

FOUR-DAY ULTIMATUM: ACTION MUST FOLLOW WORDS

The Coalition of Yoruba Youth Movement hereby gives GUO Transport management four days from the date of this statement to publicly address these concerns and demonstrate concrete steps towards accountability and improved road safety.
Failure to provide a satisfactory response will compel the movement to consider further lawful and peaceful advocacy measures, including a coordinated protest at the company’s headquarters, subject to applicable legal requirements.

Any such action will be aimed at demanding answers, promoting accountability, and preventing further loss of innocent lives. We urge the company to treat this demand with the seriousness it deserves and engage constructively with the relevant stakeholders.
We will not remain silent when credible concerns about road safety and the protection of young Nigerians demand urgent attention.

OUR POSITION
COYYM is not opposed to legitimate transportation businesses or enterprise. We recognize the importance of road transport to Nigeria’s economy, national integration, and the movement of people and goods. However, commercial success must go hand in hand with responsibility, professionalism, and respect for human life.
We therefore call on GUO Transport to demonstrate that passenger safety is a genuine priority, not merely a corporate promise.

Nigerian roads must not become places of preventable tragedy. Our young people deserve to travel safely, families deserve peace of mind, and every victim deserves justice.
Enough of preventable road deaths. Enough of unanswered questions. Safety, accountability, and justice must prevail.
Signed:

Comrade Olalere Benedict Adetunji
President
Coalition of Yoruba Youth Movement (COYYM)
