The GSM Advocates, a socio-political group loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde, has berated the Senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, over what it described as woeful and abysmal representation.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the group said the Senator has wasted the mandate freely given to him by the people of Oyo South through his actions and inactions in the National Assembly.
According to the group, Senator Alli has failed to justify his presence at the Red Chamber, noting that since his election, the district has not witnessed any meaningful federal presence, quality bills, or impactful constituency projects that reflect the enormity of the district.
The statement reads in part: “Oyo South is the most strategic senatorial district in Oyo State, housing the economic nerve of the state and the largest concentration of enlightened minds, yet it has been reduced to a voiceless district under Senator Sarafadeen Alli.”
“From Ibadan to Ibarapa, our people are asking: Where is our Senator? What has he done? You cannot point to any legislation sponsored or any intervention facilitated by him that has direct bearing on our people. He has wasted our Senatorial district with his actions and inactions.”
The GSM Advocates further accused the Senator of playing opposition politics of bitterness instead of collaborating with the state government to attract development to Oyo South.
They contrasted his performance with the massive infrastructure and good governance being delivered by Governor Seyi Makinde across the state, including in Oyo South, stating that while the Governor is working, the Senator is missing.
Senator Sharafadeen Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has been derisively described by aggrieved constituents and political stakeholders as a “Senator Billboard” a tag they say aptly captures his style of representation which prioritizes mounting gigantic billboards bearing his smiling face across Ibadan and Ibarapa, rather than delivering tangible, impactful projects, life-changing bills, or meaningful federal presence to the people who elected him.
The group challenged Senator Alli to publish his stewardship and account for the constituency funds received so far, adding that the people of Oyo South have become wiser and will not be deceived again in 2027.
