…Declare Commitment to Mobilise Across 40 Wards of Oyo Federal Constituency
Thirty-four former councillors who served between 2021 and 2024 in the four local government areas of Oyo Federal Constituency have reaffirmed their allegiance to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and unanimously endorsed the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former councillors, drawn from Afijio, Atiba, Oyo East and Oyo West Local Government Areas, reached the resolution at a meeting of the APM 21/24 Former Councillors’ Forum held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Saotone Hotel, Saw Mill, Oyo.
The meeting, presided over by the forum’s Leader of the House, Hon. Adewuyi AbdulRamon Akintunde of Oyo West Local Government, had the recognition of former councillors who remained in the APM, formal endorsement of the party’s candidates and mobilisation for the 2027 elections as major agenda items.
At the meeting, members commended colleagues who had continued to support the forum’s efforts towards securing their outstanding entitlements and acknowledged the contributions of serving councillors towards the welfare and activities of the former councillors.
Speaking on developments within the forum, Hon. Olasunkanmi Femi Samson of Afijio Local Government presented a report on engagements with the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo, and the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Oyo State, Hon. Sikiru Sanda.
Samson said the former councillors had been advised to compile an authentic list of members who remained with the APM, particularly following the defection of some former councillors.
He also disclosed that members had been encouraged to meet with the party’s campaign leadership to formally communicate their position and support ahead of the 2027 elections.
Other speakers at the meeting, including Hon. Okunade Idowu, Hon. Adeniyi Asimiyu Adeleye, Hon. Akinola Abiodun, Hon. Adebayo Saheed, Hon. Adepoju Sakiru Sunkanmi and Hon. Kareem Toyin Oyenibi, called for unity, coordination and wider mobilisation among former councillors who remained in the party.
The members also resolved to strengthen communication with former councillors in other areas and ensure that their activities were properly coordinated ahead of the forthcoming political engagements.
Following extensive deliberations, the 34 members present unanimously endorsed the following APM candidates:
- Presidential: Engr. Seyi Abiodun Makinde
- Governor: Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi
- Oyo Central Senatorial District: Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo
- Oyo Federal Constituency: Barr. Temilolu Nurudeen Ashamu
- Oyo State House of Assembly: Hon. Oyedele Oyewo Kosoro (Afijio), Hon. Gbenga Oyekola (Atiba), and Hon. Olorunpoto Ramon (Oyo East/Oyo West).
The forum further reaffirmed its loyalty to the APM and pledged to deploy its political structures across the 40 wards within Oyo Federal Constituency towards the mobilisation of support for the party’s candidates.
The resolution comes amid increasing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with APM already conducting mobilisation activities around its presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde, and its Oyo State governorship candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi. Makinde emerged as the party’s presidential candidate in May 2026, while Adekanmbi was adopted as the party’s consensus governorship candidate for Oyo State.
