The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ido Local Government has received a major boost ahead of the forthcoming elections following the defection of a formidable political bloc under the Omigborotiti Group from the All Progressives Congress (APC/ROCOF) to the APM.
The group, led by Hon. Hamzat Rasheed Bamidele, popularly known as Omigborotiti, also declared its support for the APM candidate for Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency, Engr. Kolawole Sheu Adedeji (KSA).
The high-profile reception was led by Engr. KSA, alongside the PDP/APM Alliance Chairman in Ido Local Government, Alhaji Musibau Emiola, and other prominent political leaders and grassroots stakeholders across the local government.
Among the notable former APC/ROCOF stalwarts who joined the APM are Mr. Jelili Ayelagbe of Ward 7 and Deeko Omo Baba Akeweje of Apete Ward 4, as well as several influential grassroots supporters drawn from different wards across Ido Local Government.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, leaders of the Omigborotiti Group pledged their total support for the APM and its candidates in the forthcoming local government and general elections.
They expressed confidence in the leadership capacity and political vision of Engr. KSA, assuring the party of their readiness to mobilise their supporters and grassroots structures in support of his political ambition.
Welcoming the new members into the APM, Engr. KSA and Alhaji Musibau Emiola described their decision as a significant development for the party, stressing that the APM remains an inclusive political platform that accommodates all members and treats them with fairness and respect, regardless of when they joined the party.
Engr. KSA further assured the defectors that they would have no cause to regret their decision, promising that the interests, welfare and political advancement of members of the Omigborotiti Group would receive due attention within the party.
500-Member Declaration Looms
In a further demonstration of its grassroots strength, the leadership of the Omigborotiti Group disclosed that no fewer than 500 of its members are prepared to formally defect from APC/ROCOF to the APM at a grand declaration ceremony.
The group said the date for the official 500-member declaration would be announced in due course.
The latest development is expected to further strengthen the grassroots structure of the APM in Ido Local Government as the political parties intensify preparations for the forthcoming electoral engagements.
