The Chairman of the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development, Hon. Adebowale Adebayo Falana, has commended Governor ‘Seyi Makinde for fulfilling his long-standing promise to support a younger generation of leaders in the state, following the emergence of Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi as the consensus governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Falana described Adekanmbi’s emergence at the party’s primary as a clear demonstration of Governor Makinde’s commitment to youth inclusion, generational leadership transition and the advancement of competent younger leaders in Oyo State politics.
Recall that Governor Makinde, while addressing youths at an event about a year ago, openly declared his intention not to support any governorship aspirant above the age bracket of 50 to 52 years after the completion of his tenure in 2027.

Makinde had said:

“I feel so old already. I came to this job at 51 and people thought that at 51, I was too young. And as a matter of fact, I was the youngest, at 51, to have ever gotten into the seat of civilian governor of Oyo State.

“I already made a promise, I said it on radio last December that when I am leaving in 2027, God sparing my life, I will not support anybody that is above 50 to 52 years.”
The governor further assured Nigerian youths of his readiness to continue supporting and mentoring emerging leaders for the future, stressing that young people have in him a dependable ally.
Reacting to the emergence of Adekanmbi as the APM consensus candidate, Falana said Governor Makinde has once again proven himself as a leader who keeps faith with his words and remains committed to building a sustainable future for younger generations.
According to him, the endorsement of a youthful and vibrant candidate like Adekanmbi reflects a progressive political culture capable of inspiring more young people to participate actively in governance and leadership.
Falana equally lauded the governor for prioritising competence, vision and continuity over personal interests, noting that the development further strengthens public confidence in Makinde’s leadership style and democratic ideals.
Speaking during the consensus candidature process, Governor Makinde appreciated the people of Oyo State for their unwavering support to his administration over the last seven years, stating that the cooperation of residents had contributed significantly to the unprecedented achievements recorded by his government.
The governor also called on the people of the state to extend the same support to the Allied Peoples Movement governorship candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, by voting massively for him in the 2027 governorship election.
Makinde further charged Adekanmbi to remain focused and visionary in leadership, urging him to build his own path and relationships in the interest of the people.
He said leadership must be anchored on vision, unity and service to the people rather than bitterness, division or political vendetta.
Falana concluded by expressing optimism that Adekanmbi’s candidature would usher in a new era of youth-driven governance, inclusive development and sustainable progress in Oyo State.
