The Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, has formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a private developer, Akeem Oduntan, for the construction of a new bridge to serve as an alternative route to the ever-busy Soka Junction.

The effort, described as a strategic move geared towards addressing growing traffic gridlock and improve connectivity within Ibadan’s expanding urban corridor took shape on Thursday.

The signing ceremony, held at the Local Government Council Secretariat in Idi-Ayunre, had in attendance, political stakeholders, and government officials who described the project as both timely and impactful, given the increasing vehicular congestion and infrastructural demands in the area.

The project, to be executed by Coach Homes and Properties Limited, proposes the construction of the Ogunpa Link Bridge, a critical piece of infrastructure which is expected to open up new traffic channels and reduce pressure on existing routes within the Oluyole axis.

Speaking shortly after the official papers signing, Engr. Olatunji noted that the partnership was a clear indication of a growing model of collaboration between government and private individuals in addressing infrastructural gaps at the grassroots level.

He emphasized that the new bridge is not just about easing movement, but about reshaping the economic and social fabrics of the affected communities.

“This initiative is a clear demonstration of our resolve in line with the bold vision of governor Seyi Makinde, over what can be achieved when individuals with capacity align with government priorities.

“Soka remains one of the busiest corridors in Oluyole local government and Ibadan Ibadan as a whole, and the need for an alternative route has become increasingly urgent and expedient.

“This bridge will go a long way in decongesting traffic while improving safety and accessibility,” Olatunji said.

In his brief remarks, the contractor, Akeem Oduntan, described the project as a personal commitment to community development, stressing that his involvement is driven by a desire to give back and support infrastructural growth in Oluyole Local Government.

He commended the selflessness of the council boss towards the affairs of his people at the grassroots, nothing that such efforts were worth complimenting via supportive measures.

According to him, the Ogunpa Link Bridge will be delivered within a four-month timeline, barring unforeseen circumstances.

He assured stakeholders of adherence to quality standards and timely execution.

“This is more than a construction project. It is an investment in people, in mobility, and in the future of this area and its adjoining communities.

We are committed to delivering a structure that will stand the test of time and truly serve its purpose,” he said.

When completed, he said the bridge is expected to provide a safer and more efficient crossing for residents, motorists, and pedestrians.

It will also accommodate heavy-duty vehicles, including trailers, thereby expanding access for commercial transportation and easing logistics challenges within the axis.

Beyond mobility, political stakeholders who witnessed the ceremony said the project when completed, will unlock new development opportunities by opening up previously underserved areas, potentially attracting investment and boosting local economic activities.

They further described the initiative as a long-awaited intervention that will significantly improve daily life for residents and commuters who rely on the Soka corridor.
