With the registration deadline of April 28 fast approaching, young people across Oyo State are being urged by the Oyo State Government, through the State Agency for Youth Development, to seize a unique opportunity to shape their future by participating in the 3rd Assembly of the Youth Parliament.

The initiative provides a platform for vibrant, forward-thinking young people to engage in policy discussions, develop leadership skills, and contribute meaningfully to governance and community development.

At a time when youth inclusion is increasingly vital, this assembly stands as a gateway for aspiring leaders to amplify their voices, build networks, and gain firsthand experience in legislative processes that impact their generation.

PREAMBLE:-
Oyo State Youth Parliament is a non-partisan structured platform that mirrors the legislative system in which indigenous young persons (male and female) are selected to represent their constituencies. The selection which is due to be processed is carried out by an inter-ministerial Committee made up of members drawn from youth-related government establishments.

FUNCTIONS:-
The successfully selected 32 Youth Parliamentarians are saddled with the responsibilities of debating on issues affecting the youth of the State as well as proposing solutions accordingly.

MODE OF OPERANDI:-
The Youth Parliament operates in line with the Framework and Standing Order as designed by the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development. The framework allows the young people to have a recognized voice in governance which is an avenue to contribute to policy formulation as it may affect their future in the State.

MANDATES OF YOUTH THE PARLIAMENT

  1. Representation of Youth’s Interests:-
    Members are to be the voices of young people across different constituencies.
  2. Policy Advocacy:-
    They propose ideas and push for policies that promote youth development in their constituencies.
  3. Legislative Stimulation:-
    It exposes young people to the lawmaking process via debates, motions, counter motions, approval or adoption (as applicable ), and resolutions.
  4. Leadership Training:-
    It grooms youths for leadership roles in politics, governance, and society at large
  5. Public Engagement:-
    Parliamentarians engage communities through sensitization to understand real youth challenges and assist in providing solutions Corporate Social Responsibility.
  6. Promoting Civic Responsibility:-
    Encourages active participation in the processes of democracy and governance.
  7. Conflict Resolution & Dialogue:-
    Provides a peaceful platform to discuss and resolve youth-related issues.
  8. Capacity Building:-
    Members gain skills in communication, assertiveness, negotiation, critical thinking, and self-esteem.

CONCLUSION:-
Oyo State Youth Parliament is where young leaders are groomed, voices are heard, and future policymakers are built especially in a progressive State like our dear State.
