The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has successfully contained a fire outbreak at a residential building near the C.A.C Oke-Ayo area of Idi-Obi Junction, Agugu, Ibadan, averting what could have escalated into a major disaster.
Speaking on the development, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform/Agency Chairman, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, said firefighters were swiftly deployed to the scene following a distress call, with the response team led by an Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent.
On arrival, a five-bedroom apartment located on the upper floor of the storey building had already been engulfed in thick smoke, raising concerns about possible escalation.
The fire service personnel immediately commenced firefighting operations, bringing the situation under control and preventing the flames from spreading to the ground floor and adjoining buildings.
Authorities confirmed that no casualties were recorded in the incident, which was traced to electrical sparks from an appliance after the restoration of the public power supply.
Security personnel from the Agugu Divisional Police Headquarters and operatives of the Amotekun Corps in Ibadan North East Local Government provided support during the emergency response.
The agency further disclosed that its personnel returned safely to base after the operation and remain on alert to respond to any subsequent emergencies.
