‎Efforts by leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to produce a consensus candidate for the Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections have ended in a deadlock.
‎
‎The meeting, held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, brought together key party stakeholders from Egbeda and Ona Ara Local Government Areas, alongside five aspirants contesting for the ticket.
‎
‎Despite extensive deliberations, the leaders and aspirants failed to reach an agreement on a consensus candidate, forcing the meeting to end without a resolution.
‎
‎Amid the stalemate, a coalition of youths from various communities in Egbeda Local Government has reiterated its support for one of the aspirants, Tosin Alabi.
‎
‎The youth coalition, led by Comrade Ipadeola Haruna, expressed confidence in Alabi’s candidacy, describing him as the preferred choice among young people in the constituency.
‎
‎According to the group, their endorsement reflects the growing demand for youthful representation and grassroots-oriented leadership in the federal constituency.
‎
‎Sources at the meeting disclosed that while discussions were initially constructive, disagreements over zoning and candidate preference ultimately stalled progress.
‎
‎The meeting was part of ongoing efforts by party leaders, following earlier directives to harmonise interests and present a unified candidate ahead of the elections.
‎
‎With the deadlock persisting, it is expected that the matter may now be escalated to higher party authorities for resolution in the coming days.
‎
‎The development leaves the PDP without a consensus candidate for the Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency, as political consultations and alignments continue ahead of the 2027 polls.
