Tension Rises in Lagelu Over Third-Term Agenda: “Don’t Back Third-Term Agenda Imposition in Lagelu” — Shina Adeolu Appeals to Governor Makinde

The political atmosphere in Lagelu Local Government and State Constituency is becoming increasingly tense following a strong appeal to the state governor by a concerned stakeholder, Mr. Shina Adeolu of Ward 5, who warned against any attempt to impose a candidate or support a third-term agenda.

In his statement, Adeolu described Lagelu as a peaceful constituency blessed with a pool of intelligent, experienced, and capable individuals who are well qualified to represent the people. He argued that it would be unjust and undemocratic to allow a single individual to occupy the position for three consecutive terms when many others are equally competent to serve.

He expressed concern over what he described as growing bias in the political process, alleging that a party figure, Mr. Tunde Tijani, popularly known as Double T, has been informing party members that the governor has already endorsed the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Akintunde (AKT). Adeolu warned that such claims, if left unchecked, could undermine internal democracy and create unrest within the constituency.

According to him, the situation in Lagelu is already volatile, and any attempt to impose a candidate may further escalate tensions among party members and residents. He emphasized that the people of Lagelu would resist any move that disregards fairness and due process.

Adeolu questioned the fairness of a potential third term, asking when other qualified individuals would have the opportunity to serve if one person continues to dominate the position. He stressed that justice and equity must prevail, regardless of personal or ward affiliations, even noting that the incumbent is from his own ward.

He therefore called on the governor to uphold democratic values by ensuring a transparent and open process that gives all aspirants a level playing field. He also urged political leaders to avoid actions capable of disrupting the peace of Lagelu, insisting that only a fair and inclusive process can guarantee unity and progress in the constituency.

Shina Adeolu writes from Kute, Ward 5. Lagelu local government, Ibadan.
