Our Representative Is a Man of Integrity, Face Your Legislative Duties — Ogbomoso Group Warns Saki West Lawmaker

The Ogbomoso Grassroots Movement has vehemently defended the Majority Leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin, describing him as a man of proven integrity and urging the lawmaker representing Saki West State Constituency, Hon. Shittu Ibrahim, to face his legislative duties instead of making what it termed “baseless and misleading allegations.”

In a statement issued on Friday by Mr. Michael Oyeleye on behalf of the Group, the socio-political Group expressed disappointment over recent utterances by Hon. Shittu Ibrahim against Hon. Adedoyin, insisting that such comments were reckless, unfounded, and capable of bringing the legislature into disrepute.

The group noted that Hon. Adedoyin had consistently provided responsible leadership, demonstrated maturity, and strengthened parliamentary stability since assuming office as Majority Leader.

According to the statement, the people of Ogbomoso remain proud of their son’s character and performance.

“Our representative is a man of proven character and integrity. Anyone seeking relevance should face their legislative duties and stop distracting the peace-loving lawmakers of the Oyo State Assembly with careless and unfounded claims,” the group said.

“We learnt on good authority that despite being a member or belonging to not less than seven Committees of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Shittu Ibrahim has contributed little or nothing to the Committees or their assignments. He doesn’t make himself available for legislative oversights of the House, and he was even not around when a special ad-hoc oversight committee constituted by the House in which he was a member visited his Local Government in Saki West. He has absented himself in the plenary sessions since the inception of the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly in 2023 more than any other honourable member. He only comes to the House anytime he wants, and leaves at will. He has time for political gatherings where he is always spreading baseless lies but he doesn’t have time for the legislative oversights and duties constitutionally assigned to him.”

They also appealed to the leadership of the House to remain steadfast in promoting discipline and enforcing parliamentary ethics, noting that the confidence of the public in the legislature should not be undermined by the conduct of a few individuals.

Reiterating its support for peaceful and developmental politics, the Ogbomoso Grassroots Movement stressed that constituents from Ogbomoso South remained united behind Hon. Adedoyin.

“Legislative seats are not for grandstanding. The people expect service delivery, oversight, and quality representation, not mudslinging or scandal hunting. We urge Hon. Shittu to uphold decorum and show respect for the integrity of the parliament. We are watching closely, what we want is effective representation, not political squabbles. “

The Ogbomoso Grassroots Movement further demanded a public apology from Hon. Shittu Ibrahim.

It cautioned that failure to issue a public apology within a reasonable period may compel the Group to explore all lawful options available to protect the image and integrity of Hon. Adedoyin, including the possibility of initiating legal action.

“We are demanding an immediate public retraction and apology from Hon. Shittu Ibrahim for his baseless and defamatory comments against our principal. If he fails to do the needful, we will have no choice but to seek redress through appropriate legal channels,”
