The Oyo State Environmental Task Force has arrested no fewer than 50 individuals for illegal disposal of waste on road medians and other unauthorized locations across Ibadan during an intensive enforcement operation conducted between Wednesday, 23rd and Monday, 29th December, 2025.

The operation was carried out by Environmental Health Officers of the Oyo State Ministry of Environment, as part of the state government’s renewed commitment to environmental sanitation, public health protection, and urban cleanliness.
The offenders were apprehended at various locations across the metropolis and were subsequently arraigned before a mobile court set up by the Ministry. The court found them guilty of violating environmental sanitation laws and imposed fines ranging between ₦40,000 and ₦50,000, in addition to mandatory community service.

As part of the corrective measures, the offenders were taken back to the exact road medians where they were arrested and compelled to pack and evacuate the illegally dumped waste under supervision, in line with the state’s environmental enforcement policy.
Speaking on the development, a Director in the Ministry of Environment, Mrs. Areo, who made the information available to journalists in Ibadan, reiterated the state government’s determination to clamp down on all forms of environmental abuse. She warned that anyone caught engaging in indiscriminate dumping of refuse would face stiff penalties without exception.

Mrs. Areo further appealed to residents of Oyo State to cooperate with the government by disposing of waste through approved waste collection channels, stressing that a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment is a shared responsibility of all citizens.
