The forum of Local Government Chairmen in Oyo State has reaffirmed Governor Seyi Makinde’s steadfast commitment to the security of lives and property, describing his administration as consistently proactive in safeguarding residents across the state.

In a statement issued after an expanded security council meeting held on Thursday in Ibadan, the chairmen noted that the governor’s efforts over the last six years have significantly reduced security threats and strengthened public confidence in government institutions.

The high-level meeting, chaired by Governor Makinde, brought together traditional rulers, local government chairpersons, service commanders, and other critical stakeholders to review ongoing security strategies and address emerging concerns.

The council chairmen emphasized that although Oyo State remains relatively peaceful due to the governor’s integrated and responsive security architecture, the administration continues to intensify efforts to maintain and improve the current level of safety.

“Given the successes recorded under Governor Makinde in taming insecurity, it is clear that the governor continues to accord top priority to the security of lives and property,” the statement read. “The expanded security council meeting further demonstrates his commitment to building a safer Oyo State.”

Providing further details, the chairmen explained that one of the key resolutions reached at the meeting was the need to increase the visibility and rapid deployment capability of security agencies across strategic locations in the state.

They added that the meeting also reviewed issues related to mining activities, noting that while mining falls under the exclusive legislative list, all licensed operators must inform the state government before commencing activities that may affect the environment or pose security risks to local communities. Compliance with this requirement, they said, will now be strictly enforced.

The chairmen under the leadership of Hon. Sikiru Sanda
commended Governor Makinde for his endless efforts and unwavering dedication” to securing the lives and property of residents.

While commending the state governor,
The council chairman stated that various local government chairmen, in their efforts to complement Governor Seyi Makinde’s security architecture, have constructed security posts, established local vigilante groups, and distributed motorcycles and other security equipment to enhance safety operations across their respective local government areas.

They stressed that the protection of lives and property is a shared responsibility, with local governments playing a critical role in supporting the state’s security framework.

The council chairman thereafter pledged to continue strengthening local security initiatives within their respective council areas.

“We assure His Excellency and the good people of Oyo State that we will redouble our efforts”.

” We remain committed to working closely with our communities, who serve as the primary sources of intelligence for timely and effective government intervention”. They said.

The council reiterated its resolve to continue partnering with the state government, security agencies, and traditional institutions to sustain peace and order across Oyo State.
