In a major political realignment within the Oyo Federal Constituency, several prominent political figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) have officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The wave of defections is led by Hon. Alhaji Hammed Mojeed Harbidem, immediate past Supervisor for Works; Hon. Olayinka Saheed Olatunde, former Councillor for Ajagba Ward 2; former Special Adviser on Works, Hon. Ali Wasiu Olawale; and former Special Assistant on Women Affairs, Hon. Kamorudeen Fasilat, all from Oyo East Local Government.

The move, described as a “significant boost” for the ADC, marks a notable shift in the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Harbidem and Olayinka Saheed, the decision to leave the PDP stemmed from unresolved internal crises at the national level and a growing dissatisfaction with the party’s direction in Oyo Federal Constituency.
They emphasized that their contributions had long been undervalued.

“All that glitters is not gold. For too long, we were working like monkeys while others ate like baboons. In Yoruba, we say ‘àwọn afẹ́kájẹ má fẹ́ ká yó tí í fún ni lóko ìdí ọ̀pẹ ro’. We were only helping to polish their political ambitions without regard for our own future,” the leaders said.

“We are joining the African Democratic Congress because it aligns with our vision for a fair, just, and inclusive political space. In ADC, our voices will be respected and our contributions valued.”

They further pledged their commitment to strengthening the ADC structure across Oyo East and the entire Oyo Federal Constituency.

In a similar development, the Olowosokedile group across the constituency, led by Alfa Taofeeq Olowosokedile, also formally joined the ADC.

Alfa Taofeeq noted that after decades of engaging various political parties, his group believes the ADC offers the clearest pathway to good governance.

“After critical assessment, we concluded that the ADC possesses the leadership qualities both at national and local levels to deliver real dividends of democracy. We are committed to working hand-in-hand with the party leadership to ensure victory in 2027,” he said.

Welcoming the new entrants, the ADC State Organizing Secretary, Hon. Kayode Akerele (representing the State Chairman), and the ADC Chairman for Oyo Federal Constituency, Alhaji Musediq Abiola Raji, described the defections as a “proud and defining moment” for the party.

“ADC is committed to creating an open and inclusive political platform. We are watching the collapse of other parties due to arrogance and internal disarray. Here, every member is valued, and we remain dedicated to building a stronger and brighter future for the good people of Oyo Federal Constituency,” the leaders stated.

The influx of supporters reportedly numbering in the thousands is considered a major setback for the PDP and a significant boost for the ADC ahead of future elections.

The event was attended by several notable figures, including: Prof. Tanimowo (BOT Member), Hon. Kayode Akerele (ADC State Organizing Secretary), Mr. Saadu Ajelabani (ADC State Ex-Officio), Alhaji Kazeem Balogun Kaola, Hon. Olayemi Oladega, Hon. Alhaji Ayo Agbaje, Hon. Olanrewaju Bello, Alhaji Olanrewaju Muhammed, Hon. Sekoni Idris Mustapha, Mr. Luqman Mustapha,
Mrs. Titilayo Serifat Alonge, Alhaji Abiodun Oyeleke, Mr. Oladapo Olaniran, Alhaji Mustapha Alesinladu, Alhaji Alli Lateef, Hon. Olatunji Jeleel, Hon. Kazeem Ejalonibu, and several party faithful.
