Oyo: Fire Engulfs Missionaries’ Residential Building In Ibadan

A devastating fire has engulfed a residential building for missionaries in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

Heritage Echo reported that the incident occurred on Saturday at Aribisala Street, near the UMC Church, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

It was also gathered that the upper floor of the residential building for the missionaries was affected. The incident was a result of lighted candles unattended to ignited nearby combustibles and set the building ablaze.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform/Agency Chairman, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident.

Akinwande in a statement released and made available to Heritage Echo News, stated that the Agency’s Officers led by ACFS Oyeniyi Taofeek swiftly mobilized and deployed to the scene.

” Upon arrival, it was the upper floor of a residential building of a missionary engulfed by fire.

“Our officers quickly swung into action and curtailed the fire from spreading to the ground floor of the building.

No casualty was recorded and the fire incident was a result of lighted candles unattended to ignited nearby combustibles and set the building ablaze.

One of the victims while speaking with our newsmen, commended the state Governor under the leadership of His Excellency Engr ‘Seyi Makinde for providing state-of-the-art equipment to the State fire service agency in responding to emergencies as when needed.

Equally, Akinwande strongly advises the public to always be conscious of fire and they should provide a solid metal plate for lighted candles whenever the situation warrants the use.

He also emphasized the importance of installing portable fire-fighting extinguishers in every building in the state for adequate prevention of fire incidents at the incipient stage.
