Residents have applauded the Oyo State Fire Service Agency for their swift response to emergencies, as the firefighters averted a tanker loaded with 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) as well as rescued two residential buildings in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at Lasi 2, Liberty Academy, Odo-Ona, Eléwé, Ibadan.

Heritage Echo gathered that a MACK trailer tanker with registered number DEP175XB (Lagos) loaded with 33,000 liters of premium motor spirit (PMS) swerved into a nearby ditch and the contents gushed out.


Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform/Agency Chairman, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident.



He said, the Firemen led by CFS Adekola (Mrs) promptly swung into action by applying chemical foam compound to suppress the flammability of the content and prevented it from catching fire from the surrounding.

No casualty was recorded and the accident was a result of loss of control whilst driving.

The normal daily activities have been restored to the community and the road is safe for vehicular movement.
Also, the Oyo State fire service agency responded to a distress call to a residential building on fire at No.17, Prestige Estate, Joop Bad hour Crescent, Onírẹlẹ, Ibadan.
The special adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform, Hon. Moroof Akinwande confirmed the incident.
He said, the firemen led by ACFS Bamidele Samsudeen promptly responded and led officers deployed to the scene of the incident.
“On getting there, it was the living room of a four-bedroom duplex residential building engulfed by fire.
“Our officers promptly launched a coordinated attack on the blaze and restricted the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
No casualty was recorded, as the properties worth millions of naira were saved by the officers of the Agency, and the cause of the fire incident is still under investigation. He declared.

Equally, the State firefighter launched a swift response to a four-bedroom flat engulfed by fire at No. 1, Alhaji Rosco Street, Ajangba Area, Kishi, Oke-Ogun axis of Oyo State.

Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident in our correspondence.
He said, a crew of firemen led by CFS Olayiwola promptly responded and deployed to the scene of the fire incident.
“Upon arrival, it was the generator room of a four-bedroom flat engulfed by fire. The firemen swiftly swung into action and curtailed the fire from spreading to the main building. The fire was completely extinguished within a twinkle of an eye.

Residents applauded the Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency Engr ‘Seyi Makinde for providing state-of-the-art equipment to the State fire service in responding to emergencies as needed.
Akinwande urged the public to be conscious of fire during this dry season and emphasized the importance of having fire extinguishers in their respective buildings in order to prevent fire incidents at the incipient stage.
