A devastating fire incident has ravaged a residential building in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.


The incident occurred on Tuesday, November 25 at No. 39, Alarape Compound, Opposite New Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Yemetu, Ibadan.
Properties Worth Millions of Naira were destroyed, as the root cause of the fire incident was a result of a cooking gas cylinder being left unattended to igniting nearby combustibles, materials, and setting the building ablaze.


Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform/Agency Chairman, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident.



Akinwande, in a statement released and made available to Heritage Echo News, stated that the firefighters promptly launched a coordinated attack on the blaze and restricted the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
He said, “The firemen led by ACFS Oyeniyi promptly mobilized and deployed to the scene of the incident. On getting there, we met the upper floor of the ancient residential building engulfed by fire.

“Firemen promptly launched a coordinated attack on the blaze and restricted the fire from spreading to other parts of the building. The operation was jointly carried out with the officers from the Federal Fire Service Ibadan Command and properties worth millions of naira were saved by the fire service.
“No casualty was recorded and the root cause of the fire incident was a result of a cooking gas cylinder being left unattended to ignited nearby combustibles and set the building ablaze.
Residents applauded the Oyo State Governor, His Excellency Engr ‘Seyi Makinde for providing state-of-the-art equipment to the State fire service thereby enabling them to respond to emergencies as needed.
Equally, Akinwande urged the public to be conscious of fire and emphasized the importance of having fire extinguishers in their respective shops and buildings in order to prevent fire incidents at the incipient stage.
