The Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engr Akeem Olatunji, has congratulated Professor Stephen Tunde Olabiyisi on his elevation to the prestigious Fellowship status of the Nigeria Computer Society.

The fellowship, regarded as the peak of professional recognition in the computing field, is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated exceptional expertise and contributed meaningfully to the growth of the profession.

Prof Olabiyisi received the honour during the National Information Technology Merit Award on Thursday 20 November 2025 at the Muson Centre in Lagos.

The award ceremony is an annual platform that celebrates individuals and organisations advancing Information Technology practice in Nigeria.

Engr Olatunji, in his congratulatory statement, described the professor’s recognition as well deserved. He said it reflects years of dedication to teaching, research and institutional development.

He noted that scholars of Prof Olabiyisi’s calibre continue to inspire younger professionals and strengthen Nigeria’s capacity in the fast evolving tech space.

Westernmirror.com.ng reports that Prof. Olabiyisi has built a career that spans more than two decades at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Ogbomoso where he rose from graduate assistant to full professor of Computer Science in 2013.

His academic journey began with degrees in Applied Mathematics earned between 1999 and 2006, along with a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Ibadan in 2003.

His teaching and research contributions cut across Computer Science, Information Technology and Mathematics. Over the years he has supervised more than 50 doctoral candidates, 60 Master’s students and hundreds of undergraduates.

His publication record includes more than 200 peer reviewed articles and conference papers. He has also delivered keynote lectures and reviewed manuscripts for several academic journals.

Beyond research and teaching, Prof Olabiyisi has held key administrative positions at LAUTECH. These include heading the Computer Science and Engineering Department, leading the Student Affairs Division, directing the institution’s ICT Centre and serving on the university’s governing council at various times.

He has also contributed to national academic development through his roles on NUC accreditation panels and as an external examiner and assessor for institutions across Nigeria and beyond.

Engr Olatunji praised his steady service, saying it reflects the depth of talent emerging from Oyo State. He added that the honour coming from NCS stands as a reminder of the impact of Nigerian scholars in shaping technological advancement.

Prof Olabiyisi is widely regarded for his work in Artificial Intelligence, Software and Computational Complexity, as well as performance modelling and simulation. He has co-authored several books and continues to mentor upcoming researchers.

The Oluyole chairman wished him greater strides as he receives the fellowship at this year’s NITMA ceremony.
