It is with immense joy and heartfelt congratulations that I celebrate the well-deserved promotion of our esteemed scholar, researcher, and mentor in the Department of Crop Protection and Environmental Biology, to the prestigious professional cadre in University of Ibadan.

This milestone is not merely a personal achievement of Prof. Adejumo but a reflection of years of dedicated service, intellectual excellence, nurturing academic growth and societal development.

Prof. Adejumo is the first female professor from Ipapo land, Itesiwaju LGA of Oyo State. Her accomplishment has been marked by diligence, innovation, and a passion for advancing frontier of knowledge in her area of specialisation. In a world increasingly challenged by climate change, pest resistance, and environmental degradation, the contributions of expert in environmental crop physiology and plant nutrition is crucial to achieve food security. Prof. Adejumo has consistently demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, and community engagement—bridging the gap between scientific inquiry and practical solutions for sustainable agriculture.

Prof. Adejumo, who was bestowed Fimogboye of Ipapo land, holds Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from University of Ibadan, 1997; M.Sc in Environmental Biology from University of Ibadan, 2004 and Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Biology with specialisation in Environmental Crop Physiology/Crop Nutrition, 2010. She had her postdoctoral fellowships at three globally recognised institutes; National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur, India in 2014, National Centre for Biotechnology, Madrid, Spain in 2022 and Institute of Biological Research, CONICET, Argentina, 2025.

Prof. Adejumo research focuses on plant responses to environmental stress and sustainable crop production. Her research contributions include; Abiotic stress physiology: understanding how crops respond to drought, heavy metal contamination, and nutrient limitations. Heavy metal detoxification and hyper accumulation: Exploring molecular and genetic mechanisms that enable plants to tolerate and remediate polluted soils among others.

Interestingly, Prof. Adejumo began her career in non-academic and government roles at local, state and federal levels in Nigeria before transitioning fully into academia. She joined the services of University of Ibadan as Lecturer II and rose through the ranks to Senior Lecturer , Associate Professor and now Professor at the Department of Crop Protection and Environmental Biology, Faculty of Agriculture.

Prof. Adejumo has successfully supervised numerous undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students, contributing to the growth of the next generation of agricultural scientists. Prof. Adejumo has collaborated with global research institutions in India, UK, Spain, USA and Argentina, broadening her expertise in molecular biology and biotechnology applications in agriculture. The don has actively participated in international conferences and workshops on sustainable agriculture, environmental biology and crop physiology.

As a scholar, Prof. Adejumo has published widely in peer-reviewed journals on crop stress physiology, environmental biology and plant nutrition. She has received many recognition awards for her innovative approaches to sustainable agriculture, particularly in the use of organic amendments for stress management.

Prof. Adejumo is a serving mentor and role model for women in science, especially in the areas of agricultural and environmental sciences. She is a trailblazer in environmental crop physiology, combining deep scientific expertise with practical solutions for sustainable agriculture.

Prof. Adejumo is actively involved in community-based initiatives, using her expertise to address social challenges and promote educational equity.

Through groundbreaking studies, mentorship of young scientists, and collaboration with peers within and beyond the university, Prof. Adejumo’s promotion to professorial cadre at the prestigious University stands as a testament to perseverance and merit. It honors years of effort spent in lecture halls, research fields, and laboratories—nurturing ideas that contribute to food security, ecological balance, and the advancement of environmental health.

Beyond academic brilliance, this recognition also celebrates humility, mentorship, and leadership, having served in positions where critical decisions have to be made to drive the growth of University community.

Congratulations once again Prof! May this new chapter bring greater opportunities for impact, groundbreaking discoveries, and continued success in shaping the future of agricultural and environmental sciences. Your hard work and passion will continue to inspire generations of scholars.
