The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has called on real estate developers and investors to take advantage of the rapidly expanding infrastructure across the State to drive growth and innovation in the housing and property sector.

He made the charge while delivering the keynote address at the 2nd Oyo State Real Estate Conference held at Jogor Centre, Ibadan.

The event, themed “Real Estate and Economic Development in Oyo State: Strategies for Success,” brought together government officials, policymakers, developers, investors, and industry professionals to deliberate on pathways for strengthening the real estate sector as a major contributor to economic development.

Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin noted that the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde has laid a solid foundation for real estate growth by investing heavily in infrastructure, including road networks, intercity connectivity, energy projects, and digital infrastructure. These, he said, have opened up new frontiers for property development in both urban and semi-urban areas.

“Across Oyo State, you will find new roads linking once-isolated communities, industrial corridors springing up, and improved power and digital connectivity. These are indicators of a forward-looking economy—and smart investors should plug into this,” the Speaker stated.

He added that real estate is not only about buildings but also about community development, job creation, and long-term wealth generation. According to him, the government is open to public-private partnerships and legislative support to ensure that the enabling environment continues to thrive for investors and developers alike.

While commending the organizers for focusing attention on the sector, the Speaker emphasized the role of legislation in real estate regulation and development. He said the Oyo State House of Assembly has passed and is working on relevant laws to protect land ownership, eliminate bottlenecks, and reduce land-related disputes.

Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin also highlighted the efforts of the State Government in addressing land grabbing and ensuring a more transparent land administration process. He revealed that the state has empowered the real estate regulatory framework and is working toward stricter enforcement against illegal developers and fraudulent agents.

He acknowledged concerns raised by residents about the unregulated activities of some real estate agents and quacks, which have led to exploitation and exorbitant charges. The Speaker reaffirmed that the Assembly had earlier passed a motion urging the Executive arm and the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development to develop stronger regulatory policies. He added that it is now time for laws to take full effect—arresting and prosecuting defaulters to restore sanity to the sector.

The event also featured panel sessions and networking opportunities for stakeholders to share insights and forge new collaborations. Participants praised the State Government’s commitment to infrastructure expansion and the Speaker’s proactive engagement with the sector.

With increasing investor confidence and ongoing reforms, the Oyo real estate landscape is set for unprecedented transformation.
