On Saturday, October 11th, the world unites once again to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child a day dedicated to amplifying the voices of girls, advancing their rights, and securing their place as equal contributors in shaping a brighter future.

This year’s global theme, “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being” (UNICEF), reminds us that empowering the Girl Child is not just a moral obligation, but a powerful investment in the future of our families, our communities, and our nation.

When a Girl Child is protected, educated, and guided rightly, she grows into a strong, confident, and visionary woman — one capable of transforming society and breaking cycles of inequality.

I often reflect on my own journey — I was once a Girl Child too. The opportunities I received, the mentorship I enjoyed, and the values I was taught shaped the woman and leader I am today. Therefore, I firmly believe that when we nurture our girls, we build nations.

To every Girl Child out there:
Be bold, be focused, and stay on the path of purpose and integrity. The world awaits your brilliance. The future is indeed yours, and the sky is only your starting point.

Let us all continue to advocate, invest, and act to create a society where every girl can thrive, dream, and lead without limits.

Happy International Day of the Girl Child!

E-signed
Hon. Dr. Olufunke Comforter Adeniyi-Olajide
Chairman, Oyo House Committee on Women Affairs and Community Development,
