Oyo: Fire Guts Telecommunications Mast In Ibadan

Equipment worth millions of naira has been destroyed following a fire incident that ravaged a mast belonging to a telecommunications company in Ibadan South West local government areas of Oyo State.

Our correspondence gathered that the incident occurred at Maple Leaf Drive, Alalubosa GRA, Alesinloye Areas, Ibadan

Special adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform and Agency Chairman, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident.

Akinwande said, the fire was caused by an electrical spark from a generator.

He said; “The distressed call was reported at exactly 09:50hrs on Sunday 5th October,2025 through telephone call and Mr Abiola to Airtel Cell Site at the above address.

“The Officer’s Agency led by ACFS Bamidele Samsudeen promptly mobilized and responded to the scene of the incident.

“Upon arrival, it was the generator and Pernel inside the cell site of the telecommunication company engulfed fire.

“Our officers quickly swung into action and subdued and restricted the fire from spreading to other communication equipment in the site.

“No casualty was recorded and the fire was as a result of electrical sparks from the generator.

Akinwande further urged the public to be conscious of fire and emphasized the importance of protecting the communication equipment with all necessary fire fighting devices in order to prevent imminent fire incident.
