In an unexpected development, Comrade Olayiwola Jelili has tendered his resignation as Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Oyo West local government area of Oyo State.

Heritage Echo gathered that the exact reasons behind Jelili’s resignation are yet to be fully disclosed, his decision mirrors a growing trend of dissent within the party.
However, recent weeks have seen several high-profile resignations from the PDP members in Oyo federal constituency resigning from the party with members citing internal conflicts, imposition, disregard for democratic principles, marginalization, and several others

In a letter submitted to the party through the Ward 08 Chairman, Comrade Olayiwola
stated that “I, Com Olayiwola Jelili, Oyo West PDP Party secretary, hereby write as a formal notice to quit from the People Democratic Party (PDP) effective from today, Wednesday, 3rd September, 2025.



“I have contributed my quota to the party development and to achieve the mission and values of the party, but to my utter dismay, my contributions, dedication, and hard work are not being recognized. As a result, I have decided to quit this political party.
“Appreciate the opportunities given to me to serve as Party secretary in this local government to work together for the party to record success during the 2019 and 2023 general and state elections.

“Thanks in anticipation.
However, the implications of Jelili’s resignation on the PDP’s fortunes in Oyo West remain to be seen.
This development underscores the need for the party to address its internal issues and strengthen its structures to regain the trust of its members and the electorate before the 2027 general elections.
