
Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed as a result of an inferno that ravaged residential buildings in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Heritage Echo gathered that the incident occurred early this morning, around 2 a.m., in Ibadan at Lane 2, Oluyole Estate, Ibadan.
It was learnt that a sitting room of a duplex residential building was engulfed by fire, as a result of an electric surge from electrical appliances plugged in unattended in the sitting room.

Special adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform/Agency Chairman, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident.



Akinwande affirmed that the incident resulted from an electric surge from electrical appliances plugged unattended in the sitting room.
He said, “The fire incident was reported at exactly 02:39hrs on Monday, 1st September 2025, through a telephone call, and Mr Kayode reported a house on fire at the above address.


“Immediately the address was taken, a crew of fire personnel led by ACFS Adedeji promptly responded and deployed to the scene of the fire incident, upon arrival, it was a sitting room of a duplex residential building on fire.
“The firemen swiftly swung into action and curtailed and restricted the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
However, the fire was completely extinguished within a twinkle of an eye.
The fire slightly affected items in the sitting room only and the whole building and other properties worth millions of naira were saved by the officers of the Agency.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform/Agency Chairman Hon.Moroof Akinwande, further urged the public to be conscious of fire and emphasized the importance of having extinguishers in their respective buildings to prevent fire incidents when they first start.
