Oyo: Properties destroyed as Fire Guts Residential Building In Ibadan

Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed as a result of a fire that ravaged a residential building in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Heritage Echo gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday at Aroro Makinde, Opposite House 14, Olomoyoyo Estate, Ojoo, Ibadan.

No casualty was recorded as a building of four (4) flats engulfed by fire as a result of overheating of a plugged washing machine on the balcony, which was left unattended.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform/Agency Chairman Hon Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident to Heritage Echo.

Akinwande said, “The fire emergency call was received at around 10:36 hours on Thursday, 7th August 2025, through telephoning, and Mr lfedayo reported a house on fire at the above-stated address.

“Immediately the address was received, a crew of Firemen led by ACFS Bamidele Samsudeen left for the scene of the incident.

“On arrival, the balcony of a private residential building of four (4) flats engulfed by fire, and we swiftly engaged our appliance.

“The fire was curtailed and restricted from spreading to the other parts of the building.

He further reiterated that the fire incident was a result of the overheating of a plugged washing machine on the balcony, which was left unattended.

He affirmed that the fire was completely extinguished and it was the balcony of the building that was slightly affected by the fire

The Agency’s Officers were able to protect the building from the devastating fire and millions of properties were saved.
