A petroleum tanker carrying 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, known as Petrol, has tumbled in Oyo State.

Our correspondence gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday along Òyó/Ogbomoso Expressway, Onigari Village, Oyo.

However, the tanker, with registration number BKA 661XA (Kaduna), reportedly lost control whilst in motion and fell by the roadside.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform/Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident to Heritage Echo Correspondence on Friday.

Akinwande said; “the incident was reported at exactly 12:34hrs on Thursday 3rd July 2025 through running caller and Mr Wahab Akeem to a petrol tanker accident at the above address.

“Immediately, the firemen led by CFS Tijani promptly deployed to the scene of the incident and on getting there, we met an IVECO trailer tanker registration number BKA 661XA (KADUNA) of 45,000litres capacity loaded with petroleum motor spirit (PMS) lost control whilst on motion and fell by the road side, cab detached and contents gushing out”.

The agency personnel swiftly swung into action by applying necessary chemicals and observing all precautionary measures to avoid imminent fire and likely explosion that might lead to fire disaster.

He further explained that the incident occurred when the driver was trying to maneuver the potholes .

Akinwande reiterated that CFS Adeduntan and a team of SAFER highway patrol were in attendance for security cover at the incident.
