The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the official dates for the 2026 governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states.
According to the Commission, the Ekiti State governorship election will hold on Saturday, July 20, 2026, while that of Osun State is scheduled for Saturday, August 8, 2026.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made this known on Friday, May 30, 2025, during the swearing-in ceremony of six newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Abuja. The appointments were recently confirmed by the National Assembly.
In his address, Professor Yakubu also disclosed that the Commission is finalising arrangements for upcoming bye-elections to fill vacant seats in both the National and State Houses of Assembly, noting that the dates for those elections would be made public soon.
The INEC boss emphasized the Commission’s commitment to credible, transparent, and inclusive elections across the country.
