Senatorial Meeting: Oyo Central Senatorial PDP Unites, Reaffirms Support For Gov Makinde Ahead of 2027

In a significant display of unity and solidarity, the Oyo Central Senatorial District of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership.

This declaration comes ahead of the 2027 elections, signaling a strong resolve within the party to stand together under Makinde’s guidance, at the senatorial meeting held at Surulere local government, Iresaadu, Oyo State on Wednesday, 21st May, 2025.

The show of unity was evident by key stakeholders and party leaders who expressed their collective endorsement of Makinde’s governance. Participants praised the governor’s initiatives and policies, highlighting the positive impact on the state’s development and the welfare of its citizens.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Chairman of PDP Oyo State, Hon. Omikunle James, acknowledged that Governor Makinde’s leadership has been marked by efforts to improve infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic opportunities in Oyo State.

Exploring the genuineness of the gathering, Oyo Central Senatorial Chairman, Hon. Muftau Ogunremi, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, Dr. Gbola Adetunji, ALGON Chairman Sikiru Sanda, others’ reaffirmation of support underscores the party’s confidence in its ability to drive further progress and development.

The united stance of the Oyo Central Senatorial PDP is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the party’s position ahead of the 2027 elections. By rallying behind Governor Makinde, the party aims to project a cohesive image and reinforce its commitment to his leadership and vision for the state.

This development is expected to bolster the PDP’s chances in future electoral contests, as it demonstrates a unified front and a clear direction under Governor Makinde’s stewardship.

However, the party’s resolve to support its leadership is a testament to its dedication to advancing the interests of Oyo State and its people.

Equally, all the party chairmen in all the 11 local governments in Oyo Senatorial district further state clearly the position of the party in each local government and salute the leadership of the party for doing everything humanly possible.

Also, the federal lawmaker representing the good people of Surulere/Ogooluwa federal constituency, Hon. Makanjuola Sunday Ojo (Smato) urged all the party members to be united with a clear purpose and determination to build and strengthen the party, assuring that the struggle to win the presidency in 2027 would be achieved as well as retaining the seat of the state government in Oyo State.

Smato further assured the party members of constant support all the time in making PDP progress in Surulere/Ogooluwa and Pacesetter State in general.

However, at the meeting, the position of the party is very clear, and given the above contributions from stakeholders and political functionaries make the following communique viz;

  1. All the Party leaders and Stakeholders in Oyo Central Senatorial district under the umbrella of PDP affirmed the leadership of Engr ‘Seyi Makinde and declared that PDP is big enough to accommodate any other political party who believes in the liberation of the people of Nigeria from the present hardship of the federal government.
  2. The Oyo Central Senatorial district commends His Excellency on his sustainable development to the people of Oyo State and applauds him for doing more.
  3. That the People of Oyo Central Senatorial district confirmed their loyalty and support to His Excellency in rebuilding the PDP for a national positive image.
  4. That the Oyo Central Senatorial district and the stakeholders believe in the PDP despite the challenges and assured that with determination we shall overcome those challenges for the betterment of Nigeria.
  5. In addition, the Òyó Central Senatorial leaders and Stakeholders unanimously agreed that whoever the party picked for the next gubernatorial candidate would be fully supported at all costs.
  6. Notable Defection: Hon. Faozeey Oladotun Nurudeen officially joined the PDP, promising total commitment.

In attendance at the event are; Hon. Omikunle James – Deputy Chairman, PDP Oyo State, Barr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye-Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Simeon Oyeleke, Hon. Wale Atilola, Hon. Sikiru Sanda – ALGON Chairman and all 11 local government Chairmen and their Vice, Hon. Waheed Akintayo & Hon. Abideen Adeoye – Oyo State House of Assembly Members, Hon. Oyebanji Folahanmi – Former Reps Member, All 11 LG Party Chairmen under Oyo Central, Peter Olushola– Assistant Organizing Secretary, Alhaja Rafiyat Onilenla – Senatorial Women Leader, Hon. Akinboro – Assistant General Secretary, Hon. Seun Oguntona Olunloyo

Others are; Hon. Lekan Bello – Senatorial Youth Leader, Barr. Waheed Gbadegesin – State Legal Adviser, Hon. Dayo Opatokun – State Financial Secretary, Alhaja Wulemotu Ibitoye – State Women Leader, All local Excos across 11 LG in Oyo Central, women leaders, youth leaders and party members and several others.
