The Oyo State Fire Service Agency’s swift response averted a tanker explosion in the early hours of Tuesday.
The incident claimed the lives of two persons in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
However, the incident, which occurred around Gabster Mega Petrol Station, Orita Challenge, in the Oluyole Local Government Area, happened at about 5:00 am.


According to the information gathered by our correspondence, the victims, identified as the driver of the tanker and his motor boy, were burnt beyond recognition.

“The incident happened around 5:00 this morning. The driver and his motor boy were trapped in the inferno and couldn’t escape. They were burnt beyond recognition,” an eyewitness said.
The fire incident was a result of a break failure when the driver was trying to negotiate the roundabout in front of the total filling station and hit the concrete, somersaulted, and caught fire.

Equally, the operatives of the Oyo State Fire Service, with support from security agencies, battled to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby commercial outlets and residential buildings.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the State Fire Services Agency and Special Adviser on Fire Services Reform to Governor Seyi Makinde, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, said firefighters responded swiftly to the emergency.
“We received information about the fire at Gabster Mega Petrol Station, Orita Challenge, at 5:15 am. The situation is now under control,” Akinwande stated

From the indications, the residents have praised the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency Engr Seyi Makinde, for taking the security of the life and properties of the residents to another level.
“We’ve never had it so good like this; the state fire service has been so responsive in curtailing fire incidents in Pacesetter State.
