A devastating fire outbreak was averted this morning Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Oja-Asamu Market in Kosobo Area, Oyo East Local Government, thanks to the swift response of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started at the market around 5:00 am, with several shops engulfed in flames. However, the Oyo State Fire Services Agency received a distressed call and promptly deployed its personnel to the scene.
The operation was led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Oyedeji, the fire crew arrived at the scene on time and quickly contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to other nearby shops.
Although eight shops were affected by the fire, the agency’s personnel were able to save properties worth billions of naira.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by a high voltage of electricity when the power supply was restored.
The firefighters returned to the station at 6:51 am, with the situation brought under control.
The timely intervention of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency has been praised by traders and residents of the area, who expressed gratitude to the Oyo State government led by His Excellency Engr Seyi Makinde FNSE for equipping the fire agency with modern facilities, instrumental in preventing and responding to fire incidents across the state.
This incident highlights the importance of having a well-equipped and responsive fire service agency, and the Oyo State government has been commended for its efforts in ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.
