Oyo State Fire Service Agency, under the leadership of Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, has responded swiftly to a trailer tanker fire near Agbowo and Omifatokun Toll Gate area, Ibadan.
However, the diesel tanker on fire occurred in front of Honourable Fijabi House, Agbowo, Ojoo/ Iwo Road, Expressway, Ibadan, the state capital.

The unfortunate incident was reported at exactly 02::45hrs on Wednesday, 22nd January 2025, through a GSM call and confirmed by Mr. Akinbantan, alerting the authorities to the tanker fire.

In a statement released and made available to Heritage Echo correspondence, the accident was a result of a trailer tanker carrying AGO (diesel) losing control whilst in motion and hitting another in front; both the two tankers were somersaulted into the nearby ditch and caught fire immediately.


The fire personnel led by ACFS Ogunkanbi was promptly deployed to the scene of the Incident and swiftly swung into action. The team invariably made a fire cover by applying a chemical compound and curtailed the fire from spreading to the nearby residential area.
According to Ogunkanbi, “The fire disaster was a result of a trailer tanker loaded with diesel content; the driver of the tanker was recovered while the motor boy was rescued alive from the fire by the fire officer and conveyed to the UCH for medical treatment. The Diesel tanker was destroyed by a devastating fire; the other two trucks and vehicle spare parts inside were saved by the Agency’s personnel”. He said.

Equally, the agency curtailed a devastating fire incident, likely a petroleum tanker accident at Omifatokun lagos-Ibadan expressway tollgate area, Ibadan.
Preliminary reports indicate that the personnel left the Agbowo scene to the tollgate area to curtail the fire incident while standby personnel were there to guide against any unforeseen circumstances that may result in a fire disaster.

Residents of the area and commercial drivers lauded the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr ‘Seyi Makinde FNSE, for the prompt and excellent response of Oyo State Fire Service Agency to the fire prevention and outbreak nowadays.
They, however, commended His Excellency Engr Seyi Makinde and the agency’s dedication to serving the people of Oyo State and ensuring their safety is truly laudable.
