Dr Adewale Kolapo Kareem (AKK). AKK is a governorship aspirant in Oyo State in 2027.

Access to basic necessities like food, shelter, and good roads is a fundamental priority for any government. Unfortunately, many communities in Nigeria, including those in Oyo State, struggle with inadequate infrastructure, particularly roads. This both hinders economic growth, as well affects the well-being and safety of residents. Good roads are essential for connecting people to their workplaces, homes, and essential services, making them a critical component of a functional society. This is typically what plays out in advance nations, and ours shouldn’t be found wanting.

With this understanding, I recently supported the Adewolu Area, Oluwo, Egbeda, Ibadan community by providing three tons of sand to fill potholes in the area. The roads are in critically bad conditions. This intervention only aims to mitigate the effects of bad roads on the community, because I recognise that it’s only a temporary solution, – yet, I remain committed to advocating for proper and sustainable solutions to address the community’s infrastructure challenges.

The plight of communities like Adewolu Area is not unique to Oyo State or Nigeria. Many areas suffer from neglected roads, which causes mental and psychological distress, among other issues. Witnessing the daily struggles of these communities is heartbreaking, and it’s crucial we acknowledge the need for collective action. As someone invested in the well-being of Oyo State and Nigeria, I believe it’s essential to raise awareness about these challenges and encourage collaboration among stakeholders.

I remain dedicated to promoting good governance and supporting local communities in Oyo State. I recognise the importance of political power in driving meaningful change, and I urge well-meaning individuals to support leaders who genuinely prioritise the people’s interests.

I call on other stakeholders with the means to support their communities, where necessary, to join forces in creating a better future for all. We can make a difference when our collective interventions meets at the center, to create a more prosperous and equitable society for our people.
