The Political Head/Administrator of Oyo Southwest Local Council Development Area, Hon. Nureni Adesola Alade, has praised the Oyo State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Hon. Temilolu Seun Ashamu, for successfully commissioning Phase 1 of the 11MW Ibadan Hybrid Power Plant, under the leadership of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde FNSE.
The Council Mayor expressed his admiration for Commissioner Ashamu’s foresight, dedication, and vision in driving the project to reality.

He stated that the IPP project is a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to improve its energy infrastructure and promote economic development in Pacesetter State.
It could be recalled that the first phase of the project is a 5MW integrated power plant, consisting of 1MW solar power and 4MW natural gas. This marks the initial stage of an 11MW initiative, reflecting His Excellency, Engr Seyi Makinde’s vision for energy self-sufficiency in Oyo State.


Alade reiterated that the project will deliver uninterrupted power to critical infrastructure, including the government secretariat, the Ọyọ State House of Assembly, 12 Healthcare facilities, a sports complex, judicial complexes, and selected schools. This initiative will enhance safety and visibility, significantly boosting energy reliability and sustainability.
However, this effort represents a tangible step toward creating a healthier, more sustainable future for the people of Oyo State while also keying into the world’s commitments to climate change initiatives and sustainability.
It’s expected that the build-out to the state’s facilities will allow connection to manufacturing, industrial, and residential offtake, which has been accommodated in the design.
IPP project is a key component of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration’s strategy to provide reliable and affordable electricity to residents and businesses in Oyo State.
