The Governor of Oyo State, ‘Seyi Makinde, has been commended for giving a good account of himself as a true democrat and a strong believer in electoral democracy.
The governor was commended for his strong support for the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Mr Alfred Agboola Ajayi in Saturday’s governorship election.
A group within the Oyo State PDP, the Oyo PDP-Visionaries, gave the commendation on Sunday, noting that the Oyo State governor fought a good fight as the leader of the PDP in the South-West.
It added that posterity will be kind to the Oyo State for his efforts in galvanising the opposition party in the region and beyond and for working hard to liberate Nigerians from the evil APC, beginning with the Ondo election.
The Lead Visioner of the group, Qudus Olayide, in a statement made available to newsmen, said though Nigerians were aware of the antics of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) even before the poll and had lost hope that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would conduct any credible election while in office, Governor Makinde stood strong and fought to the end in Ondo State.
The group decried the heavy monetisation of the electoral process, vote-buying and violence orchestrated by the APC to win the election at all costs, noting that democracy has been endangered by the APC.
It, however, declared that despite the outcome of the election, which were as a result of the APC’s evil schemes, voter apathy and complicity of some Ondo PDP elements, Makinde will always be remembered as the last man standing.
The group encouraged Makinde not to allow the setback in Ondo State to derail his belief in elections, noting that no matter how long the darkness represented by the APC endures, light will triumph.
