Mustapha Lawal’s Goalkeeping Prowess Not Enough as Tornadoes Stun Shooting Stars 2-0 In Minna

Brilliant goalkeeping by Mustapha Lawal and a dominant second half display by Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), could not save the Oluyole Warriors as they slumped to a 2-0 loss in the hands of Niger Tornadoes on Sunday.

The Matchday ten encounter, played at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, saw the homers secure their first home win of the season via a goal in each half of the encounter.

It was a game in which Shooting Stars’ goalkeeper, Mustapha Lawal put up a great performance but his efforts were just not enough to save his side from defeat.

The homers scored the first goal in the 31st minute through Joseph Godstime, who slashed home a low cross past the impressive goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal.

The homers who dominated proceedings in the first half, could have added more but for Mustapha Lawal’s reflexes.

However, the coach Gbenga Ogunbote tutored lads upped their game in the second half, taking the game to the hosts, with substitutes, Tosin Olawale and Mustapha Adams adding bite to the attack.

Adams should have grabbed the equaliser in the 70th minute but his shot went the wrong direction after Anthony Okachi, had bulldozed his way through the Ikon Allah boys defense.

Okachi, who was a thorn in the flesh of Tornadoes, almost level things up minutes later but his well taken shot flew inches away from target.

The Oluyole Warriors kept pressing for the leveller but had their work cut out in the 88th minute when Mendos Rickson, benefitted from a floppy defending by the Stars, to fire past Mustapha, thus dashing the visitors’ hope of levelling up, with just two minutes of the 90 left

Next Sunday, Shooting Stars will be back at their base for a Matchday eleven clash against El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri, the only club yet to taste defeat in the season.
