In a significant move earlier today at the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Olorunpoto Rahmon Cephas, representing Oyo East/Oyo West State Constituency, proposed a motion for the completion and operationalization of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital Annex in Oyo Town.

Constructed in 2011 under the leadership of the late Governor Adebayo Alao Akala, the hospital was intended to provide advanced medical services to Oyo Town and its surrounding areas.

However, despite its potential, the facility has remained unused for over a decade, falling into a state of neglect.

Hon. Olorunpoto emphasized the critical importance of the hospital, highlighting its potential to greatly enhance healthcare services in Oyo State.

“The facility can save lives and provide accessible care to our residents,” he stated.

He pointed out that with Oyo State’s full ownership of LAUTECH, there is a unique opportunity to integrate the hospital into the state’s healthcare and education system.

This integration would offer clinical training opportunities for students from nearby universities, including Ajayi Crowther University, Atiba University, and Emmanuel Alayande University of Education.

Currently, residents of Oyo Town are forced to travel long distances to Ogbomoso or Ibadan for tertiary healthcare services, which can be a matter of life and death during emergencies.

The operationalization of the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Annex would alleviate this burden and ensure that the community receives the healthcare services it desperately needs.

Hon. Olorunpoto called on his colleagues and the state government to take immediate action to complete and operationalize the hospital.

“It’s time to ensure that this teaching hospital serves its intended purpose for the betterment of our community.

Let’s make this happen together,” he urged.

The motion underscores the urgency of reviving the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Annex to fulfill its mission of providing top-tier healthcare and supporting medical education in Oyo State.
