Hon. Wahab Waliu Adetunji (WABKEM), the Executive Chairman of Atiba Local Government, has expressed his appreciation to MTN Nigeria Foundation for the renovation and upgrading of the Oke-Olola Maternity Centre in Atiba Local Government.

Hon. Wahaab Waliu Adetunji lauded MTN Nigeria Foundation for its remarkable efforts in providing state-of-the-art medical equipment, significantly contributing to the reduction of maternal mortality rates in Africa, especially in Nigeria.

Based on 2020 statistics from the World Health Organisation (WHO), WABKEM reported that Nigeria ranked as the third most severely affected country in Africa, with 1,047 deaths per 100,000 live births. He, therefore, described MTN’s gesture as both timely and welcome, highlighting its potential to reduce maternal-related complications in the community.

In addition to its efforts in education, MTN Nigeria Foundation has also been involved in healthcare development projects. They have donated medical equipment to various clinics and hospitals, improving the quality of life for the people.

The local government leader assured the telecommunications giant that the facilities provided would be used judiciously and efficiently by the center’s staff, whom he described as both qualified and prudent.

Dr. S.A. Adewole, representing the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. M.B. Olatunji, highlighted that MTN Nigeria Foundation has effectively showcased its corporate social responsibility by contributing to society and improving the quality of life for the people.

He also assured that within a few months, the state government will add approximately 3,000 workers to the Primary Health Care delivery sector in the state.

In her welcome address, Matron Lagbenro A.A., the Primary Health Care Coordinator of Atiba LG, praised MTN Nigeria Foundation for its generosity and pledged to use the promised medical equipment efficiently.
